Fundraising Together Apart–a novel approach.

Diving For Life has held its annual scuba diving fundraising event for nearly 30 years–then COVID hit. As a member of DFL’s board of directors, we were forced to cancel our only fundraising event–the International Scuba Jamboree

We needed to remain engaged with our devoted following and I was determined to not let COVID destroy our momentum. I developed, designed, produced, and executed the first-of-its-kind virtual fundraising event for the organization that raised thousands of dollars for charity during an off year.

Project Goals

A Week Long Virtual Scuba Diving Event

The virtual event, “Neptune’s Kingdom” was a week’s long virtual Scuba diving trip into the fantastical world of the deep that mimicked the events of our actual Scuba Jamboree.

Engagement was designed and optimized for Facebook and Instagram. We designed daily video briefings, dive schedules, excursions, happy hours, social meets, email marketing blasts, and even boarding passes to transfer members to “Neptune’s Resort”.

The main fundraising mechanism was through the sale of a wide variety of Neptune’s Kingdom branded merchandise all sold through a TeeSpring store. All mark-up on the merchandise was 100% donated.

Having been the first time Diving For Life has ever tried a virtual fundraising event, it was a runaway success.

Project Impact

This version virtual event reached hundreds of Diving For Life members and raised thousands of dollars for charity.

As a member of Diving For Life’s ALL-VOLUNTEER board of directors (currently Vice President), the execution of this virtual event has truly been one of the most rewarding projects of my career.

Expanded into an international audience.

Increased ad revenue from long term sponsorships.

Increased newsletter signups by thousands.

Increased merchandise sales by thousands.
